Nanny
Brooklyn
Lovely family in Brooklyn is looking to hire an extraordinary live-out nanny. Little boy will be 4y in March, little girl will be 2 in April, and a baby due in six months . Hours would be 40 per week, Monday through Friday, 9:30am-5:30pm, *except one weekday – 1pm-9pm.* Pay is negotiable. Start date would be Feb. 14 (or later).
Below is a summary of what the family is looking for, in order of importance:
Love for children, love of being in children’s company, love of teaching children new skills (potty-training, crafts, stories, cleaning up, manners).
Polite, warm, cheerful demeanor.
Energetic, youthful, fit. They have four flights of stairs in the house. Plus, many of the activities in Brooklyn are spread out, so the job requires extensive walking and handling a bulky double stroller. You need to be able to carry a 25-lb. toddler upstairs at times. Should be able to manage an umbrella stroller + child on subway.
Organized. Someone who is finicky about keeping things neat. This means organizing toys and making sure the children participate and learn how to keep their belongings tidy and well-kept. (not simply shoved out of sight into cabinets).
Willing to do light housekeeping. Duties would include a weekly change of the children’s bedding, laundering baby’s cloth diapers & sanitizing diaper pail with Clorox wipes every other day, putting away laundered clothes weekly, leaving kitchen as found after mealtimes – including wiping down high chair and floor, loading dishwasher, etc., tidying up and vacuuming children’s play areas and beds as necessary. In short, leaving all areas of house in the same condition as found. Housekeeper launders the children’s clothing and bedding as well as all other heavier cleaning, i.e. dusting, kids’ bathroom, weekly vacuuming of children’s rooms, etc. There must be a routine of shared responsibility for cleaning up after the children, between nanny and a housekeeper.
Punctual and reliable.
Flexibility with hours, including occasional weekend availability.
Driver’s license a plus.
Other duties would include:
Preparation of simple, healthy meals for children – generally lunch – plus snacks.
Ability to travel, both locally and abroad (valid passport), 1-2 times a year at most. Particularly for the month of August to Hamptons (weekends off) – *though not this year.* Occasional overnight or weekend stay.
Accompany children to play dates, classes, park, museums, library, zoo and other outings – both walking and via public transportation.
Occasional pick-up of our three-year-old from school – 10-minute walking distance.
